My name is Mary MacInnes, I’m 22 years old. I started my business in March 2014 age 16 as part of a challenge for young people to run a business for one month with a start up capital of just £10. (You can read more about this at www.tenner.org.uk) and search for Mary Mac.
Juggling school and a passion for sewing I decided to carry on my business after the challenge ended and 10 months later was voted Cream Of Ayrshire Young Entrepreneur of the year 2014 age just 16. I’ve been in business for almost 7 years now and absolutely love it.
I made my first memory bear 5 years ago as a favour for a friend and was asked to make more but turned them down because I wanted to concentrate on university and a career in bridal.
I gave in to requests for bears in 2019 and once I uploaded photos to my page things went a little crazy.
It can be emotionally draining some days, reading about young peoples suicides, the victims of terrible accidents, the effects of long endured cancers and of course the sudden unexpected tragic losses through Covid to name a few.
What does come though is how very much loved the owners of these treasured garments are, as a custodian of clothing, cremation ashes & jewellery I take that very seriously. It truly is a privilege & pleasure to make your bears.
I absolutely love what I do. Thank you for trusting me with your loved ones clothing.
I’ll be back behind the sewing machine on Monday, until then have a lovely weekend and keep healthy.
